Building AI Agents: A Hands-On Agent Builder Workshop

Join AITP Jackson for an interactive, 2.5-hour working session hosted at C Spire Corporate Headquarters in Ridgeland, where participants will move beyond theory and begin building practical AI agents for real business use cases.

Workshop Overview

AI is evolving from simple chat interfaces to autonomous, task-oriented agents capable of reasoning, acting, and iterating. This session translates the AI Stack framework into a hands-on build experience, showing how modern AI agents are designed across infrastructure, models, data, and orchestration layers.

This is a working session—not just a presentation. Participants will follow along as we design and structure an AI agent capable of interacting with data, APIs, and business workflows.

Participation Requirement (Important)

To fully participate in the hands-on portion of this workshop, attendees should:

  • Bring a laptop (required for active participation)
  • Have the ability to install software locally (admin rights recommended)
  • Be prepared to download and configure AI development tools during the session

Participants without a laptop are welcome to attend, but will be limited to observation.

What You’ll Do

  • Design an AI agent architecture using the 5-layer AI stack
  • Map a real business use case into an agent workflow (Think → Execute → Review)
  • Connect data sources and retrieval systems (RAG)
  • Evaluate model selection strategies (open vs. proprietary)
  • Explore integrations with APIs, CRM, ERP, and internal systems
  • Understand infrastructure considerations (cloud vs. on-premise)

Who Should Attend

  • IT leaders and architects evaluating AI strategy
  • Developers and engineers building automation solutions
  • Technical professionals interested in hands-on AI implementation
  • Business leaders responsible for operationalizing AI initiatives

Workshop Format

  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Format: Guided build session + live walkthroughs + applied exercises
  • Outcome: A practical foundation for designing and beginning to deploy AI agents

Key Takeaway

You will leave with a working understanding of how to build AI agents, not just conceptual knowledge.

AITP began as the National Machine Accountants Association back in the 1950s, and an active chapter was formed in Jackson at this time. With the advent of powerful, mainframe computers and the accompanying staffs, the name was soon changed to DPMA (Data Processing Management Association) to focus more on the processing of all types of data. However, with the proliferation of personal and mid-range computers, this name also became dated, and effective in 1997 the association members changed its name to AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals).
