William “Greg” Mallette

Cybersecurity State Coordinator - Mississippi

Greg Mallette is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security (CISA) Cybersecurity State Coordinator for Mississippi. In this role, he serves as a federal cybersecurity risk advisor for state, local, tribal, and territorial government (SLTT) and private sector partners by helping them develop and maintain secure and resilient critical infrastructure. He also facilitates the sharing of cyber threat information between federal and nonfederal entities.

Prior to his work with CISA, Greg worked with the Department of Commerce as an Information System Security Officer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency’s National Water Center, where he effectively led the IT Security Team and was the principal advisor to the Director on all matters, technical and otherwise, involving the security of the information system.

Before joining the federal service, he concluded a 20-year tenure with the Department of Defense as both an active-duty military member and a civilian contractor. A veteran of multiple military operations over his career, he served in various roles including Secure Network Administrator, Information System Security Manager and as Superintendent of a Regional Operations Security Center data center. He built a reputation as a subject matter expert for successful strategies in cybersecurity, risk management and system accreditation. He spearheaded the adoption by the Air National Guard of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) by leading a nation-wide transition team.

Mr. Mallette holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Certified Information System Security Professional certification with the ISC(2). He has been married for over 32 years, with three children and three grandchildren.

AITP began as the National Machine Accountants Association back in the 1950s, and an active chapter was formed in Jackson at this time. With the advent of powerful, mainframe computers and the accompanying staffs, the name was soon changed to DPMA (Data Processing Management Association) to focus more on the processing of all types of data. However, with the proliferation of personal and mid-range computers, this name also became dated, and effective in 1997 the association members changed its name to AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals).
